Deck Repair in Apex & the Triangle
Rotted boards, loose railings, damaged stairs and lattice — repaired and protected.
Yes — I repair decks across Apex, Holly Springs and the Triangle: rotted or cracked boards, loose railings, damaged stairs and lattice, plus cleaning, sanding, staining and sealing. I’ll tell you honestly what is cosmetic and what is structural. Insured, with a free estimate before any work starts.
Deck Repair
Triangle humidity, summer sun and heavy rain are hard on wood decks. Soft boards, splitting wood, loose railings and broken lattice are all cheaper and easier to fix early than to rebuild later. I replace what is damaged, secure what is loose, and protect the wood so the repair lasts.
What’s included:

Signs your deck needs repair
Most deck damage starts small. These are the signs worth acting on before a board gives way:
- Soft or spongy spots — a screwdriver tip sinks into the wood
- Boards that are cracking, splitting, cupping or warping
- Rotted board ends where the boards meet the framing
- Popped nails or loose screws sticking up
- A wobbly railing or loose balusters
- Damaged or detached lattice and skirting around the base
- Water that soaks in instead of beading on the surface
How I repair a deck
I start by walking the deck and probing the boards, railings and stairs, and checking the framing underneath where I can reach it. Then I replace the damaged boards, secure loose fasteners, repair railings, stairs and lattice, and finish with cleaning, sanding and a stain or sealer to protect the wood.
If I find structural damage, such as rotted joists, posts or the ledger, I’ll explain it plainly and quote that work separately. Nothing gets added to the job without you knowing first.

Deck Repair — common questions
How do I know if a deck board needs replacing or just treating?
Press a screwdriver tip into the board. If it sinks in easily or the wood crumbles, it is rotted and should be replaced. Boards that are only gray, dry or lightly cracked can often be cleaned, sanded and sealed.
Do you stain or seal the deck after repairs?
Yes. I can clean, sand, and stain or seal the deck so new boards blend in and the whole surface is protected. Just ask for it when we talk.
Will new boards match my old deck?
I match the board size and type, but new wood looks different from weathered wood at first. Staining or sealing after the repair evens out the color.
Is my deck safe to use while it needs repair?
Soft boards, loose railings and damaged stairs are safety risks. Avoid putting weight on those areas, and keep children and pets away from them, until they are repaired.
How much does deck repair cost?
Small repairs are quoted flat or at my hourly rate. Larger repairs are priced after a free assessment, because the cost depends on how much wood is damaged. The estimate is free.
Do you also build new decks?
Yes — see my Deck Building page. New decks are custom-quoted, permits are handled when required, and I’m insured.
